Here is a peek at a few recent discoveries in the error-laden 1990-91 Pro Set Hockey issue. Those of you that have been following the recent discoveries in 1990 Pro Set football, will notice the similarities in variation type for these two: jagged stat lines and “clipped” stat headings are two major parts of the Pro Set football lexicon as of the last few years.
#271 Gordie Roberts can be found with “clipped” and corrected stat headings on back:
#290 Gilles Thibaudeau can be found with incomplete, jagged stat line(s) on back:
I’d like to inquire about two cards from this set that I have seen referenced in a few places but that I have not seen myself. Does anyone know if these cards exist? If so, does anyone have scans and/or other information:
#1 – Ray Bourque (printer’s error – Borqu)
#246A – Paul Gillis (#37 on front)
Eric,
I am not sure if the Bourq exists. I have a 20 box case of Pro Set by my desk. I have seen a few of the harder to find corrections in the first few boxes right now (Ray Bourque but not Phil Bourque). It also seems that it is an upside down Pens and All-Star card case.
Shawn
Shawn,
I was able to find a version of the Bourque card that makes me believe that the Borqu card exists. I have a version where the e is faded – it’s still visible, but much less than the other letters. I can see how this printing problem could have been worse for other cards, thus making the e completely non-existent.
I am still trying to track down the Shawn Burr no bio card and the Gillis blody nose card, if you or anyone else has had any luck with those I’d be interested in hearing from you.
Eric
I have a 1990-91 Proset hockey card that has #1 on back with Ray Bourque on back but Gilles Thibaudeau on the front. Has anyone else come across this error card.
Eric,
I have a photo of the Gillis Bloody Nose but I do not have the card. I had the Burr no bio, but I think I charged too little for it (got $20.00 for it about 6 months ago). If you want to see a scan of the Gillis LMK and I can forward it to you.
Shawn
I also have a scan of the Gillis card. That’s one that actually should be up on this site. Too bad I missed out on the Burr card!
I HAD the elusive Gillis Card, but being a proset card I let it go to the kids and had no luck recouping it after I found out the rarity. It did/does exist. My wife and I had a distinct conversation as the kids were playing with it noting the number error and the fact that in 1990 it was appropriate to have a card with a bloody nose.
